Biotechnology Eligibility Test (BET 2014) :
GENERAL :
Applications are invited from Indian nationals for the award of DBT-Junior Research Fellowship (DBT-JRF) for pursuing research in frontier areas of Biotechnology and Applied Biology. JRFs will be selected according to merit under two categories: Category I & II. Category I fellowship (Top 275 in number) are tenable in any University/Institute in India where the students can register for Ph.D.

Category II students (100 in number) will be eligible to join any DBT sponsored Project and avail fellowship equivalent to NET/GATE qualifications as per DST Guidelines, subject to selection through institutional selection process. Fellowship will be co-terminus with the duration of project and institutional rules will be applicable. There will be no binding on PIs of DBT sponsored projects to select JRF/SRF for their projects from category II list. Selection in Category II will not entitle student for any fellowship from DBT-JRF programme. For further details please visit http://nccs.sifyitest.com/BET2014.

ELIGIBILITY :
Candidates can appear for BET examination only thrice during their career within the prescribed age limit. Candidates who have completed eligibility qualification in a year will be eligible to appear in that year and two subsequent years. Students who have passed after Jan.1, 2012 or will appear this year (till August, 2014) final examination of qualifying degree is eligible.

Students with M.Sc. / M.Tech / M.V.Sc. degree with Biotechnology in title of degree e.g. Biotechnology, specialization such as Agricultural, Animal / Veterinary, Medical, Marine, Industrial, Environmental, Pharmaceutical, Food, Bio-resources Biotechnology, ? Biochemical Engineering, Bio-sciences and Biotechnology, Bioinformatics? and M.Sc. ? Molecular & Human Genetics? and M.Sc. ? Neuroscience? as well as B.Tech / B.E. in Biotechnology (4-year course after 10+2) recognized by UGC/AICTE are eligible for this examination.

The applicants should be below the age of 28 years for Open category as on th 28 February 2014. Candidates with minimum 60% for general and OBC category (55% for SC/ST/PH) of the total marks (equivalent grade) are only eligible. Online registration will start on 20 February 2014 and the last date for submission of online application form is 21 March, 2014.

DBT-BET (category I) entitles a candidate for fellowship subject to Ph.D registration of the candidate in a recognized university or Institute in the country within 2 years. At present, very few institutes or universities allow B.Tech students to register for Ph.D. directly. Registration for Ph.D is candidate’s responsibility and NCCS or DBT have no role in

DETAILS OF THE AWARD :
The fellowship will be initially for a period of 3 years extendable for 2 more years based on performance. By the end of 2 year, the performance of JRF will be assessed and will be upgraded to SRF. The fellowship for JRF / SRF will be @ Rs. 16,000/- or 18,000/- per month (based on qualification) + HRA as per DST guidelines and research contingency of Rs. 30,000/- pe

MODE OF SELECTION :
The candidates will be selected based on an online admission test, ? Biotechnology Eligibility Test? (BET) to be conducted on 20th April, 2014 at 10 AM in the following twelve cities: New Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Patna, Trivandrum & Ahmed

MODE OF APPLICATION :
Candidates should register and apply online in the prescribed application form available at the URL th nccs.sifyitest.com/BET2014 starting on 20 February 2014. All the details about the application process and the examination are available on the web site. The last date for submission of online application form is 21 March, 2014. Stepwise procedure for filling the online application form, payment of application fees and uploading of required documents/certificates is given in the above said URL. General/OBC candidates have to pay an application fee of Rs. 500/- and SC/ST/PH categories are exempted from payment of application fees. The application fees is payable either online or offline as detailed on the web site for completion of application process. The application fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. No TA will be provided to any candidate for attending the examination.

HOW TO APPLY :
Students are required to apply online through nccs.sifyitest.com/BET2014 website. No other means/ mode of application will be accepted

Pre-Requisites for Applying Online :
1) E-mail ID:
** Candidates are required to have a valid personal e-mail ID. It should be kept active till the completion of the exam process. Registration Number and Password will be generated and email intimation will be sent to the candidate’s email ID specified in the online application form. Under any circumstances, Students should not:
** Share their email-id to any other person
** Use e-mail ID of any other person
** In case a candidate does not have a valid personal e-mail ID, he/she should create a new e-mail ID before applying online.

2) Mobile No:
** Candidates are required to have a valid Mobile No. It should be kept active till the completion of the exam process. Registration Number and Password will be generated and SMS intimation will be sent to the Candidate’s Mobile Number specified in the online application form.

3) Documents Required to Upload:
A) Photograph and Signature:
Candidates should scan their photograph and signature ensuring that both the photograph and signature are within the required specifications given in the Guidelines for Scanning Documents.

B ) Proof for Date of Birth:
Candidates should scan their attested true copy of Birth Certificate (preferably SSC certificate) within the required Specifications given in the Guidelines for Scanning Documents.

C) Proof for OBC/SC/ST/PH:
If the candidates belong to Other Backward Class (OBC) or Reserved Category (SC/ST) or Physically Handicapped category (PH), they should scan and upload suitable certificate issued by the competent authorities within the required Specifications given in the Guidelines for Scanning Documents.

D) Proof for Percentage of Marks:
** For candidates who have already passed the qualifying examination in 2012 or later: Candidates should scan their Attested true copy of final statement of marks or Certificate of the qualifying examination if cumulative percentage of marks are clearly shown or else scan all the Semester Mark Lists (attested) obtained in the qualifying examination and upload within the required Specifications given in the Guidelines for Scanning Documents. (Uploading should be single PDF). ** For candidates who will appear for the qualifying examination in 2014: Candidates should scan their certificate in the given format (Click here to download Certificate format.) which should be downloaded, printed, duly filled & signed with seal by HOD/Coordinator of the University Department/ Head of the Institute certifying that he/she is eligible to appear for final qualifying examination in 2014 and clearly mentioning the cumulative percentage of marks obtained in the earlier semester exams. The document should be scanned and uploaded within the required Specifications given in the Guidelines for Scanning Documents.

Payment of Fees :
** Payments can be made either online using Net banking/Credit card or Debit Card or offline by physical payment in any of SBI branches across the country using auto generated challan after registration
** Fees payable online o For General / OBC Candidates – Rs.500/- + bank charges as applicable. o SC / ST / PH Candidates exempted from payment of application fees
** Fees payable offline – o For General / OBC Candidates – Rs.500/-
o SC / ST / PH Candidates exempted from payment of application fees
** Payment of Application Fee through Demand Draft/ Cheques/ Money Orders/ Postal Orders etc. will not be accepted.

Online Mode of Payment:
** Students can make payment online using Debit / Credit card powered by Master or Visa as well as using the Net Banking User ID / Password.
** Retain your Registration No. and Password for further reference

Offline Mode of Payment
** Download and print the prefilled Fee Payment challan from the site after completion of registration and pay the fees in any branch of State Bank of India all across India.
** Keep the offline counterfoil payment challan safely with you after payment at SBI. Please make sure SBI puts a journal number and stamp while accepting your payment. In case of any error, we may need to verify your payment challan.

For online payment, keep the necessary details/documents ready to make online payment of the requisite application fee. Please save and print the online transaction receipt safely with you for any future requirement.
** Applications once submitted cannot be withdrawn and fees once paid will not be refunded under any circumstance.

    I have completed my Msc.biotechnology from India but my permanent residency belongs to Nepal.Before six month(2014-10-15 to 2014-04-15) I have been selected for BCIL training in India. Can I apply for the competitive exam in India like CSIR-net,NET Exam,and DBT JRF at any cost,please forward the information regarding that.

  3. I have completely filled my application form .But I cannot understand how to send hard copy of my application form on which address and which document I need to attached?

    I did not pay the fees still. Shall I pay tomorrow? If I pay the fees tomorrow will you accept my application. Then I am having only BC certificate.

    Today I registered in BET 2014 and I am going to pay in offline mode. Whether I have to send hard copy of that paid challan?

  6. I paid the fee through Offline mode using the generated challan. Now should I upload the scanned copy of the Paid challan which contains Journal number and Authrorised signature and seal of the Bank? How can I make sure that my payment has reached the DBT organisation?

  16. I have filled form and my registration no. is 101261 and password is P6GUCN55. BUT I HAVE NOT UPLOADED MY CASTE CERTIFICATE. SO HOW CAN I AGAIN LOG IN AND UPLOAD THAT?

    1. I am not able to find any facility to view your registered application using your id and password.
