Indian Air Force offers opportunities for UNMARRIED MALE INDIAN CITIZENS from designated Districts of State of Tamil Nadu, UTs of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Puducherry and Karaikal to become airmen. The Recruitment Test for Group ‘Y’ (Except Automobile Technician, Ground Training Instructor, Indian Air Force (Police) and Musician) Trades will be held at 8 Airmen Selection Centre C/O Air Force Station Tambaram, Tambaram East, Chennai (Tamil Nadu) from 23 March 2014 to 26 March 2014 as per the Selection Programme given below.

Selection Programme : The Recruitment Test will be conducted from 7AM onwards as per the details given below. Candidates reporting upto 10AM on 23 March 2014 at the Rally venue will only be permitted to appear in the Recruitment Rally.

1. Date : 23 March 2014
Stream/Activities : Written Test,Physical Fitness Test (P F T) and Interview for Group ‘Y’ (Except Auto Tech, GTI, IAF (P) and Musician) Trades.

2. Date : 24 March 2014
Stream/Activities : Medical Examination for candidates qualified in Interview on 23 March 2014.

3. Date : 25 & 26 March 2014
Stream/Activities :RESERVE DAYS

Districts Covered : CHENNAI, THANJAVUR, THE NILGIRIS, COIMBATORE, THIRUVALLUR, SALEM, VELLORE, RAMANATHAPURAM, KANCHEEPURAM, THIRUVANNAMALAI, PERAMBALUR, TIRUCHIRAPPALLI, KARUR, NAGAPATTINAM, THIRUVARUR AND ARIYALUR DISTRICTS OF TAMIL NADU AND UTs OF ANDAMAN AND NICOBAR ISLANDS, PUDUCHERRY AND KARAIKAL

Date Of Birth Block :
(a) Candidates should be born between 01 FEBRUARY 1994 to 31 MAY 1997 (both days inclusive).
(b) Upper age limit on date of enrolment is 21 years.

Educational Qualification :
(a) Passed Intermediate / 10+2 / equivalent examination in any stream/subjects approved by Central/State Education Boards, with minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English. OR
(b) Passed two year Vocational Course affiliated/recognised by CBSE / State
Education Boards/Councils duly recognised at par with 10+2 by AIU with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English in Vocational Course or in Intermediate / Matriculation, if English is not a subject in Vocational Course.
Note : – Exact aggregate percentage of marks up to first place of decimal for all subjects as mentioned in the Marks Sheet of Intermediate or 10+2/equivalent will be considered (For example, 49.9% will be treated as 49% only).

Medical Standards :
(a) General Medical Standards for Group ‘Y’ (Except Auto Tech, GTI, IAF (P) and Musician) Trades are as follows;
(i) Height: Minimum height required is 152.5 cms.
(ii) Chest: Minimum range of expansion is 5 cm.
(iii) Weight: Proportionate to height and age.
(iv) Corneal Surgery (PRK/LASIK) is not acceptable.
(v) Hearing: Candidates should have normal hearing i.e. able to hear forced whisper from a distance of 6 meters with each ear separately.
(vi) Dental: Should have healthy gums, good set of teeth and minimum 14 dental points.
(vii) Health:Candidates should be free from medical or surgical deformity. He should be free from all communicable diseases and skin ailments. Candidates must be physically and mentally FIT to perform duty in any part of world, in any climate and terrain.

Colour Vision and Visual Standards : for Group ‘Y’ (Except Auto Tech, GTI, IAF (P) and Musician) Trades are as follows

Trades : Ops Assistant
Colour Vision : CP-II
Visual Acuity : 6/12 each eye correctable to 6/6 each eye.
Maximum limits of Ref Error: Hypermetropia +2.0D Myopia -1D including + 0.50 Astigmatism.

Trades : Admin Assistant, Accounts Assistant, Medical Assistant and Logistics Assistant
Colour Vision : CP-III
Visual Acuity : 6/36 each eye correctable to 6/9 each eye.
Maximum limits of Ref Error: Not exceeding + 3.50D including Astigmatism.

Trades : Environmental Support Services Assistant (ESSA), Meteorological Assistant and Communication Technician
Colour Vision : CP-II
Visual Acuity : 6/36 each eye correctable to 6/9 each eye.
Maximum limits of Ref Error: Not exceeding + 3.50D including Astigmatism.

Writing Materials And Documents Required:
Candidates are to bring the following documents and writting materials along with them while coming for the examination;
(a) HB Pencil, Eraser, Sharpener, Gum tube, Stapler and Black/Blue Ball Point Pen for writting.
(b) Seven copies of recent (taken on or after 23 December 2013) passportsize colour photograph (front portrait, without headgear except for Sikhs). Photographs should be only on good quality “photo paper” with Light Background.
(c) Two unstamped self addressed 24×10 cm white envelopes of good quality.
(d) Original and three attested photocopies of Matriculation Passing Certificate for Date of Birth verification.
(e) Original and three attested photocopies of Matriculation Marks Sheet (only applicable for Vocational Course Holders when English is not a subject in Vocational Course).
(f) Original and three attested photocopies of 10+2/Intermediate/Equivalent Examination Passing Certificate and Marks Sheet. OR Original and three attested photocopies of Two year Vocational Course Passing Certificate and Marks Sheets of all the semesters.
(g) Original and photocopies of Domicile, Son of Air Force Personnel (SOAFP) and NCC Certificate (if applicable).

Job Specifications : Group ‘Y'(Except Auto Tech, GTI, IAF (P) and Musician) Trades involve jobs as given below;
(a) Admin Assistant : As an Admin Assistant you will maintain and analyses records, files, information of personnel. You will also manage ration supplies, cook houses and Messes.
(b) Accounts Assistant : As an Accounts Assistant you will record and manage accounting of pay and allowances, equipment, logistics transactions, public fund and cash flow etc.
(c) Logistics Assistants : As a Logistic Assistant, you are involved in the procurement, storage and handling inventory control as wellas accounting of Military Stores.
(d) Environment Support Services Assistant (ESSA) : This job involves maintenance of the firefighting section. It also requires that you ensure the upkeep of hygiene of Air Force Campus.
(e) Communication Technician : As a Communication Technician you will operate, service and maintain all types of state of the art communication devices, telephone exchange and radio equipment.
(f) Meteorological Assistant : If you are a Meteorological Assistant, you are trained to undertake weather observation and to maintain meteorological instruments. You are also responsible for plotting of charts, taking balloon observations and compilation of weather summaries.
(g) Ops Assistant : As an Ops Assistant, you will operate various systems of Air Traffic Control Centre, Air Field and Air Defence System. You will be trained in operation of Radars, Display Units, reporting and tracking procedures of Airborne Weapon Systems etc.
(h) Medical Assistant : As a Medical Assistant you are made familiar with Nursing and First-Aid. You are also involved in Management of Medical Stores, Dispensaries and Ward Supervision

Selection Procedure :
Verification Of Eligibility : Certificates / Mark Sheets and other required documents {NCC ‘A’, ‘B’ or ‘C’ Certificate, Son of Air Force Personnel Certificate (SOAFP), Domicile Certificate} etc will be scrutinized and verified at the examination venue prior to commencement of Written Test to ascertain the prima-facie eligibility. Detailed verification will be carried out in respect of candidates who pass Written Test later. Candidature of those who do not meet the laid down educational criteria is liable to be rejected even after written test after detailed verification of original documents

Sequence Of Examination :
Written Test : Written test will be objective type and question paper will be bilingual (English & Hindi) except for English Paper. Duration of the written test will be 45 minutes and will be conducted in English as per CBSE syllabus of AISSCE and Reasoning & General Awareness (RAGA). CANDIDATES ARE TO QUALIFY EACH PAPER SEPARATELY. Results of the written test will be declared on the same day.

Physical Fitness Test (PFT) : All candidates who pass the written test are to undergo Physical Fitness Test (PFT) on the same or the next day. PFT consists of a 1.6 Km run to be completed within 8 minutes. Candidates completing the PFT in less than 7 minutes 30 seconds will be awarded additional marks on a sliding scale. Candidates are advised to bring their sports shoes and shorts.

Interview : Candidates who have passed the written test and PFT will be interviewed. Interview is normally conducted in English. Working Knowledge of English is thus essential.

Medical Examination : Medical examination will be conducted as per IAF medical standards for recruitment as airmen by medical officers of the Armed Forces. Candidates declared Medically Unfit can avail the option for Appeal Medical Board (AMB) against their Unfitness by depositing Rs. 40/- in a Government Treasury/ RBI/SBI through Military Receivable Order (MRO). The application for AMB along with original copy of MRO, Xerox copy of Unfitness Certificate and Postal Stamp worth Rs. 25/- affixed on a self addressed envelope are to be submitted to 8 Airmen Selection Centre C/O Air Force Station Tambaram, Tambaram East, Chennai (Tamil Nadu) for processing within seven working days from the date of issue of Medical Certificate.

Publishing Of All India Select List (AISL) : The All India Select List (AISL) will be displayed at 8 Airmen Selection Centre C/O Air Force Station Tambaram, Tambaram East, Chennai (Tamil Nadu) on 30 APRIL 2014. A copy of the Display List will be sent to District Magistrate of Chennai (Tamil Nadu) through Airmen Selection Centre and also will be available at Indian Air Force website
