Hostel Attendance Monitoring System :
The Department of Social Welfare is maintaining 1157 Pre-Matric hostels, providing boarding and lodging facilities to Scheduled Caste students studying from V to X Std. Initially, these hostels were started in concerned District Headquarters. Later, the Hostel facilities were extended to the Taluk Head quarters. Now keeping in view of the demand, more Hostels are being started every year even at Hobli head quarters and big villages

All these Hostels are run under the control of the Taluk Social Welfare Office/District Social Welfare Office. Each hostel is looked after by a Hostel Superintendent, supported by cooks and kitchen servants/ watchman etc, depending on the strength of the hostels. The Superintendents are qualified with a degree and B.Ed. The sanctioned strength of Pre-Matric Hostels varies between a minimum of 50 strength to a maximum of 550 Facilities available : The expenditure for each of the facilities available in Pre-Matric Hostels is given below. Eligibility :
The Pre-Matric Hostels are for those children who are studying in V Std to X std.

Documents Required : Caste Certificate, Marks Card

Admission Procedure :
Every year on the 1st of June Pre-Matric Hostels re-open after summer Holidays. Only those students who are promoted to the next higher classes are retained in the Hostels. For fresh admission to Hostels, generally on May 15, an advertisement calling for applications to join the Pre-Matric Hostels are given in the local newspaper. The applicants can obtain and submit their application forms through the principals of their respective schools, to the Taluk Social Welfare Officer of the concerned Taluk.

These applications are scrutinised and before 30th of June every year selection of fresh candidates is done by the Taluk selection committee.

Time Schedule :
During the 2nd week of May applications are called for admission to the Hostels.

Authorities to be approached in case of delay :
The Taluk Social Welfare officer at the Taluk level or the District Social Welfare officer at the District level. The Chief Executive officer of the Zilla Panchayat can also be approached.
