Shanmugha College of Engineering, established by its foundation fathers in the year 1984 and renamed as Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology and Research Academy (SASTRA) has become a University in April 2001 under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. A rich blend of academic excellence, real world experience and moral values have earned SASTRA, national accreditation. It has successfully completed twenty five years of dedicated service in the field of Higher Education.

The Bharatanatyam (Distance mode) programme of SASTRA aims at making the in-service to the traditional and performing Artists in dance to acquire relevant knowledge, skills and attitudes in pedagogical methods and praxis methods of our Indian Natyasastra

1. Name of the programme : Bachelor of Fine Arts Bharatanatyam
Duration of the Programme : 3 Years (80 contact hours per year)
Medium of instruction : English/Tamil
Eligibility : +2, Diploma in Dance of any recognized institution including Nrithyodaya.

2. Name of the programme : Master of Fine Arts Bharatanatyam :
Duration of the Programme : 2 Years (80 contact hours per year)
Medium of instruction : English/Tamil
Eligibility :Any Bachelor Degree from a recognized University) with a fundamental knowledge of Bharatanatyam

Evaluation System :
The scheme of evaluation system will consist of the following two components.
1. Continuous assessment
2. Year-end examination

Programme Fee :
Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bharatanatyam : Rs.15,300/- (Per Annum)
Master of Fine Arts, Bharatanatyam : Rs.18,000/- (Per Annum)
One time Admission fee : Rs.1000/- to be paid during the time of admission.

Credit System : Credit system will be followed for the distance education courses of SASTRA. Each credit is equivalent to 30 study hours comprising all learning activities like learning, comprehending the study materials, contact sessions etc. Thus a four credit course involves 120 hours of study. Completion of an academic programme requires successful clearing of term – end examination.

Study Centres : Allotment of study centre is done by the University and in this regard, the University reserves the right of allotment. The decision of the University in allotment is final.

ii) The candidates have to submit the filled in application form along with the programme fee in the form of Demand Draft in favour of SASTRA UNIVERSITY payable at Thanjavur.

** If application is downloaded from our University website send a separate DD for Rs.360/- as cost of the application (application number will be allotted and intimated to you) in person Rs.300/- by post Rs.360/-
