INTRODUCTION TO THE EDUCATION OF CHILDREN WITH VISUAL IMPAIRMENT
Time : 3 hours

PART A — (10 ´ 2 = 20 marks)
Answer any TEN questions.
Each answer should not exceed 50 words.
Each answer carries 2 marks.
1. Mention the aims of PWD Act.
2. State any four research studies related to special education.
3. What factors cause the developmental lag among persons with visual impairment?
4. Sketch the classification of visual impairment.
5. Define low vision.
6. List out any four stereotypic attitude that prevails in the society towards blindness.
7. What do you mean by vision stimulation?
8. What is visual efficiency?
9. How would you teach functional academics to low vision children associated with the condition of intellectual impairment?
10. Mention the different types of associated disabilities found in children with visual impairment.
11. Write about the importance of guidance and counselling for the children with visual impairment.
12. List the objectives of RCI.

PART B — (6 ´ 5 = 30 marks)
Answer any SIX questions.
Each answer should not exceed 200 words.
Each answer carries 5 marks.
13. Highlight the objectives of special education.
14. Comment on the sociological impact of visual impairment
15. Compare and contrast the concept of impairment, disability and handicap.
16. List any three major problems of adolescents with, visual impairment and suggest strategies to help them.
17. Discuss the common positive and negative attitudes of siblings and peer group towards children with visual impairment.
18. State the educational problems of children with low vision.
19. Discuss the educational management strategies to help children with low vision.
20. Write about the educational implications of visually impaired children with associated disabilities.

PART C — (2 ´ 15 = 30 marks)
Answer BOTH the questions.
Each answer should not exceed 600 words.
Each answer carries 15 marks.
21. (a) Discuss about the various Government Policies, acts and schemes and its implications towards the education of persons with special needs.
Or
(b) Summarise the effects of blindness on growth and development of an individual.
22. (a) Discuss about environmental modifications for disabled persons with special reference to visual impairment.
Or
(b) Expand UNCRPD and discuss in detail about the articles on education and rehabilitation.
