TESTING PROCEDURE:
Please familiarize yourself with the modalities of the online test using the MOCK TEST feature available on the HSEE-2013 website (hsee.iitm.ac.in).

Part I :
Online Test :The Online Test for HSEE-2013 has 144 Questions in SIX sections and the total time allowed is 150 minutes (between 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM)

** There is no negative marking.
** The clock has been set at the server end and the countdown timer at the top right corner of your screen will display the time remaining for you to complete the exam. When the clock runs out the exam ends by default – you are not required to end or submit your exam electronically.
** In online test every question is followed by 4 answer options. Choose the option that is most appropriate. Indicate your answer by clicking on the circle adjacent to the option you think is right.

** The question palette at the right of screen shows one of the following statuses of each of the questions numbered:
1 You have not visited the question yet.
3 You have not answered the question.
5 You have answered the question.
7 You have NOT answered the question but have marked the question for review.
9 You have answered the question but marked it for review.

The Marked for Review status simply acts as a reminder that you have set to look at the question again. If an answer is selected for a question that is Marked for Review, the answer will be considered in the final evaluation.

To select a question to answer, you can do one of the following:
** Click on the question number on the question palette at the right of your screen to go to that numbered question directly. Note that using this option does NOT save your answer to the current question.
** Click on Save and Next to save answer to current question and to go to the next question in sequence.
** Click on Mark for Review and Next to save answer to current question, mark it for review, and to go to the next question in sequence.
** You can view the entire paper by clicking on the Question Paper button.
** To select your answer, click on one of the option buttons
** To change your answer, click the another desired option button
** To save your answer, you MUST click on Save & Next
** To deselect a chosen answer, click on the chosen option again or click on the Clear Response button.
** To mark a question for review click on Mark for Review & Next. If an answer is selected for a question that is Marked for Review, the answer will be considered in the final evaluation.
** To change an answer to a question, first select the question and then click on the new answer option followed by a click on the Save & Next button.
** Questions that are saved or marked for review after answering will ONLY be considered for evaluation.
** Sections in this question paper are displayed on the top bar of the screen. Questions in a section can be viewed by clicking on the section name. The section you are currently viewing is highlighted.
** After clicking the Save & Next button on the last question for a section, you will automatically be taken to the first question of the next section.
** You can move the mouse cursor over the section names to view the status of the questions for that section.
** You can shuffle between sections and questions anytime during the examination as per your convenience.
** The candidates may seek clarifications regarding the testing procedure before the commencement of the online examination. Any such queries will NOT be entertained during the examination.

** The candidates are requested to follow the instructions of the “Test Administrator” carefully. If any candidate does not follow the instructions / rules, it would be treated as a case of misconduct / adoption of unfair means and such a candidate would be liable for debarment from appearing for HSEE for a period decided by the Chairman, HSEE-2013.

Part II :
Essay writing Test: The time allowed for this test is 30 minutes (between 12:30 PM and 1:00 PM). You will be given FIVE topics, out of which you are required to select one and write an essay of 300 words in the answer sheet provided.
** Invigilator will issue the answer sheet for writing the essay test.
** Please write your name and registration in the space provided on the answer sheet.
** You should also affix your signature on the last page of the answer sheet.
** On completion of the essay writing, you must hand over the answer sheet to the invigilator.
** You will be permitted to leave the exam hall, only after the invigilators announcement.

INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES :
TEST CENTER REGULATIONS :
** Report to the registration desk at the assigned centre one hour before the starting time of the test (preferably at 9:00 AM), with your admit card and a valid ID proof. You will not be allowed to enter the examination hall after 10:30 AM.
** Do not carry any of your belongings (except pencils and pens) to the computer workstation where you will be taking the online test.
** Calculators, log tables, pagers, cellular/mobile phones and any electronic gadget are not permitted inside the examination hall.
** One scribble pad for rough work will be provided in the examination hall.
** You are not allowed to eat, drink or smoke in the examination / assessment hall.
** The test administrator/invigilator is authorized to debar you from the test session for any of the following reasons:
** Creating disturbance in the examination hall.
** Impersonation and attempting to take the test on behalf of someone else.
** Talking to other test taker/s.
** Attempting to tamper with the computer system – either hardware or software.
** Use of calculators, slide rules, log tables, pagers, cell phones, concealed microphones, wireless devices or any other material that may aid in answering questions.

TIMING AND BREAKS :
** HSEE-2013 comprises two parts – online test and essay writing test, and the total time allowed is 180 minutes for both.
** Part-I is Online test of 150 minutes duration and Part-II is Essay Writing Test of 30 minute duration.
** You will be taking the online test at a computer workstation allotted to you. You will be provided with the answer paper for the Essay Writing Test at the end of the Part-I online test (i.e., only at 12:30 PM).
** No break is permitted between the online test and essay writing test.

EXAMINATION DETAILS :
The HSEE-2013 is of three hours duration and has two parts. Part-I is an objective type multiple choice question paper for 2½ hours (150 minutes) administered through computers and Part-II is an examination on Essay writing for ½ hour (30 minutes), which is to be written on regular answer paper distributed to the candidates at the end of Part I. Part II asks for writing an essay on some general topic like current affairs and general knowledge.
