Scholarships For Doctoral Studies :
Categories Of Scholarships :
The scholarships are available to the following categories of students :
(1) Indian Nationals for Ph.D. study in India : and
(2) Foreign Nationals for Ph.D. study in India.

Areas Of Specialisation/subject :
A candidate may apply for scholarship in any one of the following broad areas of specialisation :
Ph.D. (Bioresources and Biotechnology)
Ph.D. (Energy and Environment)
Ph.D. (Natural Resources Management)
Ph.D. (Regulatory and Policy Issues)

Eligibility Conditions :
At the time of submission of the application for scholarship, a candidate should
(1) hold a FIRST class post-graduate degree with a minimum 60% marks in aggregate or B.Tech degree with relevant work experience of three years with 70 % marks
(2) offered a PhD seat/already be registered /admitted for Ph.D. degree with TERI University. Those who have applied for registration and have not yet been registered or offered as seat at the time of submission of application are not eligible to apply,
(3) not be above 35 years of age,
(4) be a full-time Ph.D. Scholar

Duration Of Scholarship :
Up to 5 years (subject to successful completion of annual review process and SRC recommendations)

Value Of Scholarship For Both The Categories :
As per the disbursements guidelines (see annexure)

Review process :
The progress of scholarship holders will be reviewed after every six months on the basis of :
1. Progress report (need to be submitted after completion of each semester)
2. SRC committee report
3. Forwarding letter of supervisor

Last Date :
An application for scholarship can be submitted at the time of application of PhD admissions (i.e., throughout the year). But selection committee screens the applications only two times in a year i.e., June and December. All the registered PhD candidates who are under the process of completion of their comprehensive examination can also apply for these scholarships.
The Selection Committee’s decision to call a candidate for interview or select a candidate for scholarship will be final and no representation in this regard will be entertained.
Shortlisted candidates will be called for interview at the end of June and December.
The Scholarship commences from July or January every year according to the semester system of the University.

Enclosures :
The following documents should be securely attached seriatim to the Application Form :
(a) Summary of proposed research and its relevance (as asked in the application form, need not to repeat it)
(b) Forwarding note at the end of the application from HOD/Potential supervisor

Annexure :
TERI Scholarship disbursement Guidelines

The TERI University offers two scholarships for Ph D students researching the areas of :
Ph.D. (Bioresources and Biotechnology)
Ph.D. (Energy and Environment)
Ph.D. (Natural Resources Management)
Ph.D. (Regulatory and Policy Issues)

These scholarships, totaling a maximum of Rs 12,50,000/- per student, will be linked to different milestones and will spread over a period of five years from date of registration.

These milestones and the linked payments are as follows :
I. Every month of the PhD programme, and upto a maximum of 5 years – Rs 12,000/-
II. On successful completion of comprehensive examination – Rs 75,000/-
III. On final acceptance of first research paper
a. in an international peer reviewed journal – Rs 1,00,000/-
b. in a national peer reviewed journal – Rs 40,000/-
IV. On final acceptance of second research paper
a. in an international peer reviewed journal – Rs 1,00,000/-
b. in a national peer reviewed journal – Rs 40,000/-
V. On successful Synopsis presentation/examination – Rs, 1,25,000/-
VI. On successful defence of PhD – Rs 1,30,000/-

Incentive :
If a student successfully defends her/his thesis in a period shorter than five years, 50% of the monthly payout for the balance months would be given to her/him as a lumpsum amount. For example, if a student sussessfully defends his thesis in four and a half years, she/he would get a time incentive of Rs 36,000/- (Rs 12,000 * 6 *0.5)
