The Moot Court Competition :
The Faculty of Law of the University of Oxford, is pleased to announce The Annual Oxford University India Moot Court Competition on Constitutional Law 2013-14, and cordially invites university students to enter the competition.

The importance of mooting can neither be underestimated nor exaggerated. From drafting, researching, preparations of memorials, debating to arguing the case in a live court like set-up, mooting gives an intensive real life experience, and Moots are the thrust of the academic journey of every law student.

Enthusiasm for mooting unites Oxford and India. The University of Oxford has been closely involved in mooting in India, some of Oxford’s other moot competitions which are popular in India include the Oxford Media Law Moot; the Oxford Intellectual Property Law Moot Court, and the NUJS National Corporate Law Moot.

The Annual Oxford University India Moot Court Competition 2013-14 focuses on Constitutional Law and the moot problem involves some of the greatest constitutional law judgments of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. The competition is designed to encourage intellectual discourse in wider society as well as to give law students an opportunity to exhibit and to improve their legal expertise and debating skills.

All LL.B. students are eligible to apply, and multiple teams are allowed from all recognized universities. Participation in the competition is Free. The registration deadline is December 15, 2013, and the written memorials must reach the Moot Organizing Committee via email by January 15, 2014.

Oral proceedings of the competition will comprise two preliminary rounds, followed by Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and a Grand Final. Teams may comprise of two or three students, with any two team members speaking in any given moot, and the third team member may be a researcher. The Grand Final shall be held before members of the Indian judiciary and eminent legal scholars on March 16, 2014 in New Delhi at the India International Centre (IIC), New Delhi. – Members of the winning team shall be eligible to receive a scholarship to pursue post-graduate law studies at Oxford Law Faculty, and the winning team shall receive the opportunity to visit the University of Oxford, subject to the rules of the competition.

We would be happy to link participants with a Mentor if they need advice and guidance on any aspect throughout the competition. Mentors are typically practicing lawyers and Oxford Law alumni and teams can request a Mentor at any stage of the competition.

Please fill out the following Team Registration form in entirety. If any field does not apply to your team, please type “Not applicable”. Partially filled forms cannot be saved or submitted and corrections cannot be made to the registration form once it is submitted to the MOC. The MOC reserves the rights to verify the details submitted in the registration form, before or after allotting the Team Code. Any incorrect representation in the team registration form shall lead to disqualification of the team, irrespective of the stage of the competition. Please read the Rules of the competition (available on this website for ready reference) before submitting this registration form :

Scholarships & Awards :
1.The members of the “Winning Team” would be eligible to be awarded a scholarship for a post-graduate degree (BCL or MJur) at the Faculty of Law, Oxford University, subject to the rules of the competition.
2.Members of the Winning Team shall also be given a sponsored trip to the University of Oxford and the Faculty of Law, Oxford.
3.The “Runner up Team” shall be awarded a Trophy and a cash prize of INR 15,000.
4.The “Best Memorial” Award will be given to the Team with the highest marks in the Memorial. It carries a cash prize of INR 7,500 (for the team) and a certificate.
5.The “Best Speaker” Award will be given to the speaker with the highest marks at the end of the Preliminary Rounds based on oral submissions. It carries a cash prize of INR 7,500 and a certificate.
6.The “Best Researcher” Award will be given to the researcher with the highest marks. It carries a cash prize of INR 5,000 and a certificate.
7.A Certificate of Participation shall also be given to all participants of the Preliminary Rounds.
