World No Tobacco Day 2014 – Short Film Contest for Students :

About the Contest :
To disseminate the message of promoting public health through controlling tobacco use, the World No Tobacco Day 2014 Organising Committee under the leadership of Department of Health, Government of Kerala and Achutha Menon Centre for Health Science Studies are conducting a short film contest for students and young adults.
The World Health Organisation’s theme of this year’s World No Tobacco Day that falls on 31 May is ‘Raise Taxes on Tobacco’. The specific goals of the 2014 campaign are: ? governments increase taxes on tobacco to levels that reduce tobacco consumption; ? individuals and civil society organizations encourage their governments to increase taxes on tobacco to levels that reduce consumption.

Themes :
The short film can be made in one of the following themes
** Tobacco and Health
** Control tobacco to save lives
** Enforce tobacco control laws
** Raise tobacco taxes
** Addiction and tobacco
** Tobacco and Youth
** Social aspects of tobacco use
** Economic aspects of tobacco use

Who can apply? :
** The contest is open to college students and youth between the ages of 18 and 25.
** Both individuals and groups can participate

Rules and Regulations :
1. The short films should be of a minimum duration of 30 seconds and a maximum of 1 minute
2. The films should revolve around the suggested themes and may be made in Malayalam or English
3. The films may be made in digital camera, camcorder, handycam and mobile camera
4. The films should be the participant’s own work and not copied. It should not contain any third party materials and/or content that the participant does not have permission to use and violates any copyrights
5. The film should not contain any nudity, pornographic or sexually explicit content. It should not contain any profanities and should not defame, misrepresent or make disparaging/threatening remarks about any person or company/organisation
6. The decision of the judging panel will be final and binding. The jury will consist of filmmakers and medical experts of repute
7. All winning entries are liable to be used by the World No Tobacco Day 2014 Organising Committee for educational and training purposes without further consent from the participant
8. Entries of not more 25 MB may be submitted as attachment in ‘.mov’ or ‘mpeg’ formats to wntdkerala2014@gmail.com
9. A filled-in self-attested Particulars/Consent Form, available for download from the website of Sree Chitra Tirunal for Medical Sciences and Technology, Trivandrum at www.sctimst.ac.in should accompany the entries, along with a self-attested certificate/document showing proof of age
10. Only one entry will be allowed per individual/group. Multiple entries are not allowed
11. Winners travelling to Trivandrum to receive the awards will have to do so at their own expense

Awards :
A total of five awards will be given away on 31 May, World No Tobacco Day in Trivandrum. The winners will get a cash prize, memento and certificate. The cash award prizes are as follows:
First Prize : Rs 10,000/-
Second Prize : Rs 5,000/-
Third Prize : Rs, 3,000/-
Two Consolation Prizes : Rs 1,000/- each
Please note that winners travelling to Trivandrum to receive the awards will have to do so at their expense. The Organising Committee will not be responsible for the travel/boarding and logding of the participants

How to Apply? :
1. Read the rules and regulations carefully; by participating in the contest, it will be deemed that the contestant is aware of and is willing to abide by the rules and regulations of the contest
2. Send your film entry of not more than 25 MB as attachment to wntdkerala2014@gmail.com on or before the deadline along with (a) fully completed and self-attested Particulars/Consent Form and (b) self-attested document showing proof of age
3. Please note that only the first 100 entries received on or before the deadline will be considered for evaluation

Last Date : The first 100 entries complete in all respects received on or before 6 pm on 10 May 2014 will be considered for evaluation.
