Tamil Nadu Uniformed Service Recruitment Board :
1 : In 2012, the TNUSRB successfully conducted the combined recruitment of 13320 posts for Gr. II Police Constables (Men & Women), Gr. II Jail Waders & Firemen. This indeed was a major achievement, being the largest recruitment conducted in the history of the Board, ever since its inception in November, 1991 as per the G.O. Ms. No. 1806, Home (Services –F) Department dated 29.11.1991.So far the TNUSRB has recruited 92310 personnel; the break-up consists of 79848 Gr.II Police Constables ( Men & Women),2,431 Gr.II Jail Warders ( Men & Women) 4,541 Firemen, 5099 Sub-Inspectors of Police ( Men & Women) and 391 Sub-Inspectors Technical ( Men & Women).

2 : Among major recruitment processes are scheduled to be conducted by the Board shortly, the most important happens to be the combined recruitment of Gr. II Police Constables, Gr.II Jail Warders and Firemen. In this connection, the DGP/Tamil Nadu has projected the vacancies recently in June, 2013 and requested the TNUSRB to take necessary action to recruit 13294 Gr. II Police Constables 9191 Men (AR), 3938 Women (AR), 165 Men (TSP). This includes the additional sanctioned strength of 5000 Gr. II Police Constables in the wake of the reclassification of police stations in pursuance to the announcement made by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. In case of Firemen and Jail Warders, proposals were already received from the Heads of Departments concerned; while the Director of Fire and Rescue Services has indicated vacancies of 905 Firemen, the ADGP, Prisons has projected vacancies of 305 Jail Warders (male).

3 : Therefore, in 2013-2014, combined recruitment will be held to fill up 14,504 vacancies (13294 Gr. II Police Constables, 305 Jail Warders and 905 Firemen) in three Departments viz. Police, Prison and Fire & Rescue Services. The other major recruitment processes include the recruitment of 886 Sub – Inspector (Taluk), 234 Sub – Inspector (Tech) and 197 Sub- Inspector (Finger Print). Now the TNUSRB has also been entrusted with the task of conducting an objective type examination for selecting members of the TN Special Police Youth Brigade.

4 : The TNUSRB is in a state of preparedness to conduct these recruitments. Notification for these recruitments will be issued soon after receiving the Government orders relating to certain amendments to the relevant rules proposed by the DGP, Tamil Nadu. These orders are expected shortly.

5 : Recent months have also witnessed impressive additions to the capacity and resources of the TNUSRB. During the Conference of Collectors and Senior Police Officers held in December, 2012, the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu was kind enough to sanction 11 senior level posts to the Board. These posts consist of 1 Dy. Inspr.-Genl. of Police, 1 Supdt. of Police, 3 Addl. Supdts of Police, 2 Dy. Supdts. Of Police, 4 Inspectors of Police and 1 Deputy Legal Adviser. In addition, 25 computers were also sanctioned for expediting the process of computerization of recruitment matters. The GOs have been received and are being implemented in an expeditious manner.

6 : It is also a matter of great satisfaction that in April, 2013 the Bureau of Police Research & Development, New Delhi enhanced the TRP (Transparent Recruitment Process) ranking of the TNUSRB from 9th place to 8th place, among the states of the country. Our ranking is expected to improve further as the Board has proposed to utilize Digital Height and Chest Measurement Devices with Digital display monitor in the forthcoming recruitments. As a part of this initiative, the Board has already procured 100 laptops and 10 Desktops.

7 : At present, the TNUSRB is functioning from rented premises at P.T.Lee Chengalvarayanayakar Trust building, II Floor, No. 807, Annasalai, Chennai-600 002. As this accommodation is not suitable, a proposal was sent for construction of a govt building for the TNUSRB. The Government have sanctioned Rs. 6,54,13,467 ( Rupees six crore fifty four lakhs thirteen thousand four hundred and sixty seven only) for this purpose. The construction of this building at Egmore, Chennai has commenced in January, 2013 by the Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation.
