Senior & Junior Research Fellowship 2014 :
The Anthropological Survey of India, Ministry of Culture, Department of Culture, Government ofIndia, 27, Jawaharlal Nehru Road, Kolkata-700016 invites application in the given format for the position of Senior Research Fellow 4 (Four) and Junior Research Fellow 4 (Four) respectively. Eligibility criteria is elaborated in the website of the Anthropological Survey of India.

The SRF and JRF will be entitled for monthly stipend of Rs.12,000/- and Rs.10,000/- respectively and annual contingency of Rs.12,000/- and Rs.10,000/- (under revision) payable on quarterly basis. The selected candidate will be posted anywhere in India. The tenure of fellowship is three (3) years which may be extended for one more year in deserving cases.

How to Apply :
Interested candidate may send their application in the given format neatly typed in A4 size paper addressed to the Director, Anthropological Survey of India, Govt. of India, 27, Jawaharlal Nehru Road, Indian Museum Campus, Kolkata-700016 with a crossed Indian Postal Order Of Rs.50/- (Rs. 25/- for SC/ST candidate) in favour of Pay & Accounts Officer, Pay & Accounts Office, Department of Culture, Govt. of India, Kolkata payable at GPO, Kolkata. Attested photocopies of all testimonials and two recent passport photographs should be submitted along with the application so that the same shall be reached on or before 2nd June, 2014 to the Director, Anthropological Survey of India, 27, Jawaharlal Nehru Road, Kolkata-700016. The candidates appearing for the final year examination at Post-graduation level may also apply for JRF. The format of the application may be downloaded from the website of the Anthropological Survey of India www.ansi.gov.in. The application reached after the due date shall not be considered. Original certificates should be produced for scrutiny at the time of interview. The exact date and venue of the examination cum interview will be communicated separately through e-mail/post. The candidate called for interview will be paid sleeper class to and fro train /bus fare at approved rates. Candidates will have to arrange their own accommodation at their own cost.

Format of application form and other details are as follows :
1. Purpose of the Fellowship :
To provide opportunity to research students/scholars to undertake advance study and Research in Anthropology and allied disciplines related to Bio-Cultural sciences.

2. Vacancy :
Senior Research Fellows – 4(Four) and Junior Research Fellows– 4(Four)

3. Date & time of Interview : will be communicated through e-mail/post

4. Stipend Rates :
i) Senior Research Fellow -Rs.12,000/- P.M. (Consolidated)
ii) Junior Research Fellow – Rs. 10,000/- P.M. (Consolidated)

5. Annual Contingency Rates :
i) Senior Research Fellow : Rs. 12,000/- Per Annum (payable on quarterly basis)
ii) Junior Research Fellow : Rs.10,000/- Per Annum (payable on quarterly basis)

6. Eligibility :
(a) Senior Research Fellowship is open to persons below the age of 32 years with at least 55% marks in Master’s Degree in Anthropology or Allied Disciplines related to Bio-Cultural Sciences of any recognised University/Institute with at least two research experiences having published work of a good standard.
(b) Junior Research Fellowship is given to persons below the age of 28 years with at least 55% marks
in Master’s Degree in Anthropology or Allied Disciplines related to Bio-Cultural Sciences of any recognised University/Institute.
(c) In exceptional cases the Secretary (Culture) can offer any fellowship to any scholar without fulfilling required formalities.
(d) Age and educational qualifications may also be relaxed in exceptional cases.

7. Selection process :
Senior/Junior fellows will be selected through written test followed by Interview.

8. Tenure of Fellowship :
The tenure of all categories of Fellowships will be for three years. However, in deserving cases the period can be extended for one more year by the Director/Head of the Department on the recommendation of thecommittee so constituted by the competent authority in each case.

9.Leave :
Thirty (30) days’ leave in a year is admissible to a fellow which can be granted by Head of Office. This leave can be suffixed, prefixed and infixed with holidays. Three months medical leave without stipend may be granted in exceptional cases and this leave shall be granted by the Director/Head of the Department on the recommendation of Head of Office of the Regional/Sub-Regional Centres and Officer-in-Charge, Fellowship Programme in case of Head Office. The women awardees will be eligible for maternity leave at full rate for a period not exceeding three months once during the tenure of their fellowship.

10. Application for Senior/Junior Fellowships :
(a) Interested candidates may come for interview along with an application on plane paper as per prescribed format, addressed to the Director, Anthropological Survey of India, Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India, 27, Jawaharlal Nehru Road, Kolkata – 700 016 and acrossed Indian P ostal Order of Rs.50 / – (Rs . 25 / – in case of S T & SC candidate ) in favour of the Pay & Accounts Officer , Pay and Accounts Office , Dept . of Culture , Kolkata payable at GPO , Kolkata . Only self attested copies of degrees, diplomas and testimonials may be attached with the application. Original copies should be produced at the time of interview. Two copies of recent self attested passport size photographs of the applicant (one pasted on the application) must be submitted. A character certificate from a Gazetted Officer or a Member of Parliament or a Member of Legislative Assembly or Principal or Head of the Department of the Institute the candidate attended last or a well known person of the locality where the candidate is residing should also accompany the application.

(b) A person applying for more than one category of Fellowships should apply on separate application form. The candidate called for interview will be paid sleeper class to and fro train /bus fare at approved rates on submission of tickets for their onward journey. No private bus fare will be entertained. The Fellowship shall be awarded on the basis of merit on the recommendation of the Selection Committee. The decision of the Director/Head of the Department, Anthropological Survey of India in awarding the Fellowship is final.

Note :
i) Senior/Junior Research Fellow’s will work on the Plan Projects launched by the Anthropological Survey of India or any other project approved by the Director/Head of the Department.
ii) The same Fellowship will not be awarded twice to a person.
iii) All the categories of Fellows will be attached to the Anthropological Survey of India, Head Office, Kolkata and different Regional Centre of this Survey at different places in India.

  1. If it is a fellowship doest it count as phd?
    if no,
    while doing research in Ansi, can I do phd from different university?
    because if they don’t allow to do phd, do i have to wait for 3 years and then do my phd which is time consuming
