Inviting Applications for Admission in MA (Sociology)
Academic Session 2014-15

Sociology is one of the most popular subjects among the students. In view of the growing professional and critical need of the students, there is a great need to develop/launch an academic programme that can address and take cognizance of the multifaceted development in society. To respond to the emergent professional and social requirements, the Department of Sociology as a part of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Gautam Buddha University has been established in 2012 to undertake both teaching and research in Sociology. The Department offers both the MA and Ph.D. programmes. For Ph.D Programme in Sociology, the Department provides ample scope for undertaking research studies on substantive issues in society.

It has started its MA programme in Sociology from the last academic session 2012-13 to support specialized and interdisciplinary fields of teaching and research. Department provides extensive scope for adopting the new courses available in Sociology with the combination of both theoretical and practical concerns. The Department is inviting applications for admission in MA (Sociology) for the academic session 2014-15.

MA Programme in Sociology : aims to impart in depth sociological knowledge based on critical comprehension and analysis of social dynamics. The aim is to equip students with a critical, analytical ability by providing them theoretical and empirical exposure to various social realities. Specifically the programme reflects on:
** Various theories, concepts and methods applied to comprehend these processes
** Empirical situations of emerging social processes and their inter-linkages with the global, regional local manifestations
The Four Semesters M.A in Sociology Programme is geared to equip students with sound theoretical and empirical knowledge, a sophisticated grasp of methodological issues, critical awareness of Indian society and technical competence in the skills of social research

Teaching Ambience :
i) The courses offered in the Department reflect an interesting combination of theory, method, and data. The focus is oriented towards contemporary questions that have both basic and applied dimensions.
ii) The broad-based and flexible character of the Programme support and facilitate all round development of the student.
iii) The learning outcomes of the Programme may be described as consisting in: knowledge and understanding, cognitive and professional skills.

Eligibility :
i) Bachelor Degree from any recognized University/Institution established by law.
ii) 45% for GEN/OBC and 40% for SC/ST

Selection Criteria : The candidates will be shortlisted based on their merit and will be called for personal interviews.
