Notification for Admission to Ph.D. Programme in the Autumn Semester
Academic Session 2014-2015
Online applications are invited in prescribed format from eligible candidates for admission to the Ph.D. Programme in various fields of the following subjects;
(i) Islamic Theology: Quran, Hadith, Tafseer, Fiqah and Islamic Studies related to Theology.
(ii) Arabic: Modern Arabic Prose, Modern Arabic Poetry, Islamic Culture and Society, Quranic Studies, Arabic Linguistics, Literary Criticism, Indo-Arabic Literature
(iii) Bengali: Folklore, Katha Sahitya, Modern Bengali Literature, Linguistics, Cultural Studies;
(iv)English: Post-1950s British Poetry, Gender and Utopian Literature, Colonial and Postcolonial Literature and Cultural Studies, Children’s Literature, South Asian Studies, Australian Literature, Shakespeare, Linguistics and ELT, Women and Literature
(v) History: Education and Nationalized Politics, Educational History and Social History
(vi)Geography: Urban and Regional Planning, Population Geography and Agriculture Geography
(vii) Physics: Astrophysics, General Theory of Relativity, Cosmology, Soft Condensed Matter Physics, Biophysics, Nanotechnology, Electro-optics, Laser Science, Nuclear and Molecular Physics, 3-body System, Condensed Matter Theory,
(viii) Chemistry: Specialized in Medicinal, Organic, Inorganic, Physical and Analytical Chemistry
(ix) Mathematics: Fuzzy Sets, Graph Theory, Operations Research, Mathematical Biology, Operator Theory, Functional Analysis, Solid Mechanics, Applied Dynamical System
(x) Computer Science and Engineering: Image Processing and Pattern Recognition
(xi) Mechanical Engineering: Production/ Manufacturing.

Eligibility criteria: A Master’s degree in the concerned subject from a UGC recognized University/ Institute or such other degree as may be considered adequate for this purpose by this University, with at least a CGPA of 6.0 in 10-point scale or 55% marks. For Sl. Nos. (x)-(xi): Candidates possessing a Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology in the concerned subject from a UGC recognized University/Institute or such other degree as may be considered adequate for this purpose by this University, with at least a CGPA of 6.5 on a 10-point scale or 60% marks. Candidates have to appear in a written test followed by an interview. The written test is waived for the candidates who have qualified in NET, GATE, SET, SLET, UGC (JRF), CSIR (JRF), or Teacher Fellowship, or in equivalent Examinations or those having an M.Phil. degree, with CGPA above 6.0 in a 10-point scale. However, they shall be required to appear in the interview.

Fellowship: There are a limited number of university fellowships (state fund).
Fees: Fees for the application is Rs. 450/- for each subject.

How to Apply :
1 Log on to the university website and click on the link Admission to Ph.D Programme in the Autumn Semester Academic Session 2014-2015
2 Read the eligibility criteria carefully before starting your application process. Applying in a subject you are not eligible for will only cause your application to be rejected & application fee will not be refunded.
3 Fill all details and complete the entire application process at one go. If you leave it in between, you will have to start the process once again.
4 After you complete the form and made payment, you will get a unique application ID. Please use this ID in all communications.
5 Candidates filling the online application can pay the application fee through online payment mode (Debit card / Credit card / Net Banking). Make sure you have the Card details ready before starting the application process.
6 You need to upload the scanned images of your photograph and signature in the online application form. Image size should be less than 500KB. Keep the name of the Image file as “pic” for photograph and “sign” for signature (No special characters allowed in the image file names).
7 Then submit the application.

Submission of application: ‘Confirmation sheet’ generated at the time of applying online is to be submitted. Applicant is to send testimonials (self attested) in support of age, qualifications (mark sheets), experience (if any), fee receipt (if any) along with the filled-in ‘Confirmation sheet’ in a sealed envelope (super-scribing name of the department applied for) to
