Admission to Full-time Institute PhD Programme 2014-15 (with Fellowship)

Applications are invited from eligible candidates for Full-time Institute PhD research scholars with fellowship in various disciplines and categories. Reservation is applicable as per the norms of Government of India

Eligibility :
1. M. Tech./ M.E./ M. Arch/ M. Pharm in relevant discipline with at least 6.5 CGPA or 60 percent marks in aggregate in the M.E./ M. Tech. level from a recognized technical institute or university/ government open university
2. B. Tech/ B.E./ MCA/ B. Arch/ B. Pharm in relevant discipline with at least 7.0 CGPA or 65 percent marks in aggregate from a recognized technical institute or university/ government open university
3. M. Sc./ M. Com./ MBA/ PGDBM/ PGDM/ MA/ MBBS/ BDS in relevant discipline with at least 6.0 CGPA or 55 percent marks or equivalent in aggregate from a recognized institute or university/ government open university
4. ICWAI/ CA with a graduation degree in any discipline
5. The minimum CGPA/marks to be relaxed by 0.5 CGPA or 5 percent in case of candidates belonging to the SC/ST categories
6. A valid GATE score (professional courses)/ NET qualification (basic science and other courses) is mandatory as per MHRD norm for candidates not having M. Tech./ M.E. degree.
7. Qualifying in NET is mandatory for post graduate (M. Sc/ MA/ M. Com., etc.) candidates in nonengineering/ technology disciplines.
Above eligibility is minimum requirement only. Good academic career and higher qualification will be preferred and mere eligibility shall not ensure a call for admission test and/or viva voce. A screening of applications will be made and only the short-listed candidates will be called for admission test and/or viva voce. There shall be a further screening after the admission test and before the viva voce. All clauses in the PhD regulations of the Institute, posted in the Institute website, shall be applicable for the admission process.

Financial Support : Fellowship as per the present MHRD norms is available to all Full-time Institute PhD Research Scholars, depending on qualification.

Application Checklist : The completed application must accompany the photocopies of the following documents:
i) Attested copy of GATE/ NET score card (both sides) (> qualifying cut-off marks), if applicable
ii) Attested copy of marks sheet / Grade card of the standard X, XII and other university examinations. If the marks-sheet of the final examination is not available, the marks-sheets of the previous semesters should be submitted.
iii) Attested copy of proof of date of birth
iv) Attested copy of community certificate in the case of SC/ST candidates from a competent authority (not below the rank of a Tahsildar), if applicable.
v) Attested copy of recent community certificate in case of OBC candidates from a competent authority (not below the rank of a Tahsildar) indicating the status regarding creamy layer, if applicable, issued on or after 01/01/2014.
vi) Attested copy of certificates from competent authority for persons with disability (PWD) An application without the photocopies of the required documents is liable to be rejected.

Selection :
1 A short-list of candidates will be posted on Institute website. Eligible candidates without a valid GATE score/ NET qualification will take a written admission test conducted in the department followed by a viva voce with the Central Admission Committee on the same day. GATE/ NET qualified candidates shall not have to appear for the written admission test and shall appear for viva voce only. The admission test and viva voce shall be held at different departments. The schedule of the test and viva voce will be intimated later on the website. No admit card will be sent and all information related to admission shall be communicated through the website. Visit nitdgp.ac.in regularly for announcements related to PhD admission.
2 A student may apply for more than one programme in separate application forms. He/she should, however, keep the dates of admission test/viva voce in consideration. No traveling allowances will be paid to the candidates called for viva voce and the test. No accommodation will be available at NIT Durgapur during the viva voce and the test.

How to Apply :
1 Application in prescribed format must reach the undersigned on or before July 25, 2014. The envelope containing the application should be superscribed “Application for Ph.D. Programme (with fellowship), 2014-15 in Department of ___________________________________”. Applications without the superscript shall not be accepted. No application fee is applicable. If one desires to apply to more than one department, separate applications need to be sent. Applications reaching after the due date shall not be accepted.
